WHAT IS DESIGN?
Neha of FD,NIFT says Design is aesthetics combined with purpose to solve a problem”.
Saurabh of FD,NIFT says,” Its is diverse, how do I explain? But it is what we look at while buying most of the things.”
Devanshi of JD,Pearl says, It is a combination of elements of any and every kind to come up something that will appeal to most people”.
Jyoti of KD,NIFT says,Thank God for DESIGN. Just look around and everything that you see is a design. Some you might like, the remaining somebody else might like”.
And then I thought lets sum all of this and lets see if we can decide on what is design? So, I came up with, Design is a combination of elements. It is a problem solving process resulting in an aesthetical combination. Design is diverse and is everywhere, from the small safety-pin to the Taj Mahal and it is differently perceived by different people.
But is that enough about design? No, I don't think so…True, design is diverse and it is present in everything. And quiet literally, everything is designed! Design can be fuctional or non-functional. Functional when the design elements add to the usability of the design like the laces in the shoes. It is a beautiful criss-cross design and it helps tie the shoe to the leg! And non-functional when it is just there for the aesthetics like the embroidery in hankerchiefs. Of course there are many more examples to quote, but lets talk about design first. As we go for common notion, the prime requirement for design came as a tool for problem solving. And then we noticed that design was their already, as we define design, we see that the first thing that existed on earth i.e. nature was full of designs, and then too were all sustainable designs. It is now that we take a clue of design as a beautiful way of problem solving-rather aesthetical!
