Research

Research

Research is one of the most important aspect in a designer’s job. All products that one designs have an inspiration and that inspiration has to be researched upon well to give the best results. Also, when you are creating something, it is of great importance that you have all the required information on your inspiration, subject. It also gives you the confidence to speak about your ideas. You can respond to all questions pertaining to your work when you are clear about what you have done!
Basically, there are two types of research: Primary and Secondary. Primary research is what we would say as ‘first hand research’ which one gets to know about from his/her direct conversation, experiment or observations. While secondary research can be the backdrop of the primary research, the information that is extracted from existing sources. Which you might use as an aid your primary research.
By research we do not mean ‘search’, it is not about opening a search engine and looking for your required information. You should go out, talk to people, make observations, get in stores, visit museums, emporiums etc.
All you need to do, is find your ‘own’, ‘authentic’ data, by which you can stand and say that ‘this is what I surveyed or found out’ or ‘here is how it started’ or ‘this is what the markets are doing today’ and that’s all you need !
