Most of us as designers, aim to be entrepreneurs! But there are a lot of things one should keep in mind, to be a successful one. Just having a good design sense and skill is not enough! You should know ‘how to sell’. And the learning of this starts at the very basic level.
- As students, most of us shy away from the very basic, class presentations. We think of ourselves as non-confident and poor at English and speaking skills. But seriously, shying away won’t help, we need to work for it. And the class is the best place. Limited people and all know you otherwise also, they know how well or bad you speak. But what they don’t know is that you also have the confidence to stand in front and speak up!
- There are many times, when you have an excellent ideas, but it is not communicated well! Communication is necessary! It is not required that you should be excellent at skills, but you should be excellent at explaining what you have done! People can always be hired to do the skill part, but your ideas are your own and cannot be explained through somebody else. Start explaining, once you’r asked and stop only when the examiner is fully convinced!
- Do things that trigger the right thought. You are a designer. You think out of the box. But your customers are regular people who understand simple and clear things. Making a complicated logo for your brand, will not help your business because the common man won’t be able to decipher it! Take for example, the logos of the topmost brands like Chanel, YSL, etc. They are the most simple ones that we think of, just combinations of words.
- Choose a name that is not too common, but not too difficult to understand!
